Client: Fusion Brands

Objective: To develop the first heat-resistant silicone food trussing tool designed to replace kitchen string and toothpicks in the prep and cooking process.

Challenge: The reusable food-safe fastener must retain elasticity and adjustability after repeated use under extreme heat. It should be optimized for heat resistance, elasticity, and use scenarios, while minimizing off-gassing.

Methodology: MoveScience started off the project by researching the different and appropriate silicones based on scientific measurements of heat-resistance, flexibility, and elasticity retention during extreme heat. A silicone compound developed by NASA was chosen and the design was then prototyped and rendered in Pro/ENGINEER.

Solutions: The Finished product uses a silicone compound developed by NASA and contains the following attributes:

  • Heat-resistant to 675F / 357C
  • FDA food-safe silicone
  • Nonstick
  • Reusable
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Mesh dishwasher / storage bag included
  • Flexible and durable
  • Can link together for larger foods, such as a roast
  • Arthritis-friendly
  • 4 loops per package
  • Adjusts from 1″ to 4″
  • 15″ Long

With it’s commercial success, the product line has expanded to various sizes as well as slight modifications for various uses and circumstances.
